[2008.03.31] Slash Says Led Zeppelin Reunion “Unlikely To Occur”

March 31st, 2008

Slash, who is good friends with Jimmy Page, has revealed that a Led Zeppelin tour is unlikely to occur in the near future.

Speaking to the Daily Star’s Playlist, the Velvet Revolver guitarist explained that rumours that his own band might be supporting the rock legends on a forthcoming tour had been exaggerated.

“I’m good friends with Jimmy Page so I can tell you once and for all the tour doesn’t look like happening any time soon. But who knows, one day?” he said.

“There were rumours Velvet Revolver had been asked to support Zep on a reunion tour,” he added. “But those reports were taken out of context.”

Speaking of the reunion show Led Zeppelin played last December at London’s O2 Arena, Slash said: “I heard like literally everybody was there except me. We were in Australia so I missed the gig. I was pretty upset.”

[2008.03.28] Led Zeppelin may release new album

March 28th, 2008

Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has hinted that his band may record a new studio album, following their reunion show on December 10 last year at London’s O2 Arena.

Speaking in the May 2008 issue of our sister title Uncut, the bassist said he was uncertain about the future of the band but refused to rule out heading into the studio to work on a new album with his bandmates.

“I’d have to think about that,” he said, when asked if he’d like to make another Led Zeppelin album. “We spoke afterwards [after the O2 Arena show] and we thought the same - it felt like the first night of a tour. You think, ‘oh, I could do that a bit better, or change something in that song’. And we didn’t get a chance to do any more.”

When asked if the reunion began and ended at the O2 Arena, Jones said: “It’s possible. It’s possible.”

Asked specifically about the possibility of a new album, he said, “I’m not sure. I’m not too certain about anything right at the moment. I’ve got no idea what’s going to happen. But I’d certainly like to play with Jimmy [Page] again.”

[2008.03.28] Led Zeppelin Won’t Release Comeback Concert DVD

March 28th, 2008

Led Zeppelin are to disappoint fans by not releasing a DVD or CD of their one-off comeback concert.

Thousands of music lovers who could not get tickets for their O2 gig in December had been hoping they could watch or listen at home.

But guitarist Jimmy Page said: “It was recorded - but we didn’t go in with the express purpose of making a DVD to come out at Christmas, or whatever.” Page said a future release “at some distant point” was remotely possible.

[2008.03.27] Slash Refutes Claims To Open For Zep Reunion

March 27th, 2008

Sky News entertainment correspondent Matt Smith talked to Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, Guns N’ Roses rock legend and member of Velvet Revolver, in an exclusive TV broadcast interview to be aired from 0600 on Friday, March 28 on UK’s Sky News. An extended version of the interview will be carried on www.sky.com/news.

Slash speaks about his life of sobriety, his new range of guitars — and about the odds of Guns N’ Roses getting back together.

In the same interview, Slash also refuted comments made by bassist Duff McKagan that Velvet Revolver would open for Led Zeppelin on a rumored world tour. Slash said, “There’s been a huge rumor going around about us opening for them and I think that was something that was taken out of context. I think as far as Zeppelin doing a tour, that remains to be seen.”

Led Zeppelin has made no plans to tour yet despite an acclaimed and hugely successful reunion show in London last December.

[2008.03.27] Robert Plant Confirms “Led Zeppelin Could Play Again”

March 27th, 2008

Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant has said that there is a chance of more one-off live perfomances from the band, if the reasoning was right.

Speaking in the new (May 2008) edition of UNCUT magazine, the Zep singer, commenting on the huge success of their December reunion show at London’s O2 Arena, said: “Hopefully, one day, we could do it again. Our profit is - it’s metaphysical.”

The group’s bassist John Paul Jones added: “We (Jones and Page) spoke afterwards, and we both thought the same - it felt like the first night of a tour. You think, ‘Oh, I could do that a bit better, or change something in that song.’ And we didn’t get a chance to do any more.”

Plant also says the Ahmet Ertegun reunion gig was very different to previous gigs in their heyday. He says he: “sang his nuts off” and says it was weird that the “personality of the audience has changed from those days when everybody was in the same condition as the band. Now it was more like the 68th wonder of the world rather than a gig. So I felt a bit embarrassed.” See the latest issue (May 2008) of Uncut for Plant, Page and Paul Jones’ first in-depth interviews since their reunion for the Ahmet Ertegun reunion at London’s O2 Arena last December.

The issue will also come with a brilliant 15-track CD of the music that shaped the band, featuring Elvis Presley, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker and Otis Rush amongst the selections.

[2008.03.24] Hangin Backstage With Mr. Robert Plant

March 24th, 2008

Hey friends,
After the last couple of days, and all the craziness Had a really cool surprise, Robert Plant came into our dressing room and we had a nice sit down with him for a least an hour. Its so weird, even though here I am playing in bands for all these years and meeting so many famous musicians and people. This was really a highlight. What a great guy. Have met him before when I was with the Cult. He came to a show at Manchester Apollo. As well as last time with VR there. Tonight was just cool and more intimate I guess We just shot the shit. A few road stories and he told me he wrote Black Country Woman about a girl that was from the area we were playing in called Wolverhampton. Wow, trivia from the man himself. His son was in the opening band and Dad was playing roadie for the night. The band is called Aura and they were young and rockin. Very blues based alot like Zep. Also on the bill is Scott Ians band with his girl Pearl, another kid of rockstar Meatloaf. Awesome singer and great performer. Cool to hang with Scott, good friend and cool dude. So pretty cool night all in all. Got more good news from LA after getting on the bus on the way back to Birmingham. Mike Inez from Alice in Chains went in my new clothing store and bought one of my leather jackets. Like I said Keepin the Rock alive and very well.
I’ll keep u posted my friends, Matt

[2008.03.17] Velvet Revolver To Support Led Zeppelin

March 17th, 2008

Duff McKagan has revealed to HotPress.com that Velvet Revolver is in pole position to support Led Zeppelin if the legendary rock act decides to go ahead with a full-blown reunion tour.

“I understand that we have it, although I imagine there will be plenty of bands prepared to kick and punch us out of the way for the privilege!” said McKagan. “I would so love to have been at their London gig before Christmas, but we had dates of our own that obviously took precedence.

“What made up for it was running into Jimmy Page at an awards ceremony and him not only knowing who I was, but also saying he’d caught a couple of Velvet Revolver shows. No way did I think in 1977 when I saw Led Zep in Seattle that one day I’d be hanging out with the guitarist. Things like that I still pinch myself!”
